We're hiring: Solution Manager

Role Summary

As part of the Urban Control management team, you will have the opportunity to lead the development and implementation of cutting-edge technical solutions to multiple end users. You will be responsible for the identification and management of key suppliers and strategic partners as well as the overall ownership of our solutions portfolio.

Reporting to: Business Development Director

Location: 3 days office (Hoddesdon); 2 days home/site

Essential Functions of the Role

You will be a critical member of our fast-paced Urban Control management team, leveraging your passion, knowledge, and experience to help bring the results of research and experimentation with emerging technologies to a fruitful solution. You will focus heavily on discovering new technologies, partners, and suppliers to solve challenges identified via several routes. Working closely with the Urban Control management team you will develop and maintain a solutions roadmap complete with robust business cases, solutions literature and live demonstration and project sites.

Your focus will be to bring concepts to reality and the marketplace in a methodical but timely fashion working closely with both existing and new technology partners whilst working alongside business stakeholders, potential users and Urban Control’s Innovation and Development team to refine and deliver site ready solutions.

You will engage with the business team throughout the solution development process, to design the solution, identify the key benefits, achieve the required business value, and/ or to redefine the value proposition based on lessons learnt. You will evaluate and provide expert opinion to the Urban Control Board on whether to continue, pivot, redesign, internally develop or end the solution. You will work closely with our commercial team to help identify and develop how emerging technologies can be commercialised.

You should be able to judge multiple leads, business engagements, or use cases simultaneously, and manage competing priorities. You must be a self- starter, passionate about technology, able to work under your own initiative with minimal supervision, and willing to roll your sleeves up.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify target markets for Connected places solutions, including local authorities, transport networks, commercial and industry sectors, contractors, project sponsors, system integrators.

  • Understand customer’s challenges, strategic plans, initiatives and current government policies and directives.

  • Research competitors and similar products and services.

  • Identify and manage a strategic supply chain programme including network, software and hardware partners.

  • Manage and prioritise solution requirements.

  • Develop the feature specification, high level solution architecture, data ownership, security and trust model for the solution portfolio.

  • Create, maintain an own a detailed solution portfolio including business case, use cases, solution documentation and key benefits.

  • Determine make/ buy strategy for solution components and liaise with Innovation and Development Director on any make components to incorporate into Product Development roadmap.

  • Ensure all solution mandatory approvals and accreditations are obtained.

  • Act as Solution Champion attending and presenting at relevant industry and trade events and shows as well as internal and DW Windsor sales conferences.

  • Liaise with Customers and support them on site during the deployment and integration of provided solutions.

  • Liaise with and support technology partners in the integration of solution into existing Urban Control platforms.

  • Assist with the marketing and press releases around solutions and solution developments.

  • Support the Urban Control Operations Team in data analytics and software audits/ data processing.

Experience/ Qualifications

  • Degree in relevant engineering/ technology subject

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in solution/ product management

  • In depth knowledge of Smart City, Internet of Things or similar markets involving network, software, telecommunications, data analytics.

  • Member of technical working group or professional affiliation.

  • Experience and knowledge of information systems, data science, computer programming, network and telecommunications systems.

Knowledge and skills requirements:

  • Experience and knowledge of information systems, data science, computer programming, network and telecommunications systems Minimum 5 years’ experience in solution/ product management.

  • Effective communicator with strong written and verbal communication skills, able to communicate effectively with customers, suppliers and at all levels of the organisation.

  • You will be a strong team player, supporting colleagues closely to achieve business goals

  • You will have a proactive, naturally helpful personality, always willing to take ownership of problems and go the extra mile.

  • You will be highly analytical and driven by objective data.
